What to Expect During a Bathroom Renovation, Day by Day

Wondering what actually happens during a bathroom renovation? Here is a typical day-by-day breakdown so you know what to expect.
Knowing the sequence of a renovation removes the stress. While every project differs, here is a typical timeline for a full bathroom over 2–3 weeks.
Days 1–2: Strip-Out
The old bathroom is removed, waste taken away, and the room prepared. Any layout or structural changes begin.
Days 3–5: First Fix
Plumbing and electrics are run to the new positions — pipework, cabling, and any wall adjustments. This is the "behind the walls" stage.
Days 5–7: Tanking and Boarding
Walls are boarded with tile backer where needed and wet areas are tanked (waterproofed). Underfloor heating is laid if specified.
Days 7–11: Tiling
Floor and wall tiling, the most time-consuming stage, followed by grouting once the adhesive has set.
Days 11–14: Second Fix and Finishing
Sanitaryware, taps, shower, screen and accessories are fitted, electrics connected and tested, sealant applied, and the room decorated and cleaned.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a full bathroom renovation take?
Typically 2–3 weeks depending on size, specification and any layout changes. We provide a detailed timeline at the quotation stage.
Can I use the bathroom during the renovation?
No — it's out of action for the duration. If it's your only bathroom, plan alternative washing arrangements; we work efficiently to minimise the disruption.
